No local organization has a longer or more colorful history than the YMCA of Clifton Springs. The 'Y' organization has its beginning in England in 1851, and our local group started here just twenty-six years later in 1877. The village at that time had only 1,200 residents. That year a group of four God-fearing men, employees of the Sanitarium (San), began meeting for religious devotions. Dr. Henry Foster, hearing of this, fitted up a room in the San for their use and on July 6, 1877 an enlarged group met to formally organize the YMCA branch in Clifton Springs. |
In Summer 2018, the YMCA Board of Directors voted unanimously to pursue a capital project to renovate our YMCA buildings and better position our organization to continue providing important services to the communities we serve. For the past 140 plus years, the YMCA has always been here when people need us the most and we have an unwavering commitment to make sure that the next generation has access to programs and services that enhance their quality of life.
Our current 5 Crane Street facility, which has served generations, is in urgent need of updating, so that we can continue our impactful work for generations to come. The renovated YMCA will address current facility needs and will position us to respond to future community challenges and opportunities. In late summer of 2018, we launched a fundraising campaign to renovate our existing facility and programs. A successful “Strengthening Communities” Capital Campaign will allow us to help more people as they seek a healthier spirit, mind, and body, which will ultimately build a stronger, richer and happier community for all.
Please consider supporting your local YMCA. The YMCA has been serving the Clifton Springs and surrounding communities for over 140 years and together we can ensure that we will be here providing opportunity for all, for another 140 years and beyond.
