The YMCA of Clifton Springs was the beneficiary of a mural thanks to an Arts, Culture and Recreation Grant Program from Ontario County. The mural was painted on what is known as “The Palace Theatre” at 10 Crane Street. The YMCA utilizes this building as a fitness center. The original YMCA of Clifton Springs building is across the street at 5 Crane Street. The large-scale public art will be crafted by talented muralist Audra Linsner who is proud to call Clifton Springs her hometown.
The Ontario County Arts, Culture and Recreation Grant Program was made possible through the Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The funding was allocated to assist projects that aimed to develop or expand arts, cultural, and recreational opportunities as the community recovers from COVID-19. Main Street Arts, a Clifton Springs-based nonprofit arts organization and art gallery specializing in showcasing contemporary art and fine crafts was thrilled to receive the funding.
Audra and Brad give thanks to other key stakeholders on this project including Mayor Jim Keyes and community member, Maureen Ballatori.
Maureen took on the role of championing and sponsoring this project but wants to give credit where credit is due. “This idea originated with the YMCA’s former Executive Director Todd Freelove. I fell in love with the idea of bringing public art to Clifton Springs and set my sights on making it happen. I’m delighted to have the YMCA Board so enthusiastically embracing this project and am grateful to Brad, Audra, Jim, and Ontario County for their roles in making this possible.
